Mojo and Blue Lagoon
The location known as Mojo to locals is close to the North Opal and home to larger fish like bass and snapper. Those ‘deep water’ fish find their way into Mojo because of the rush of cooler water flowing in the gaps in the reef. Reef sharks and ocean turtles are also fre-quent visitors for the same reason.
Blue Lagoon is nearby and not always accessible. While it’s close to Mojo, it has a much shallower water level, which means that at different times boats can’t get in. That lower water level and the warmer water that results from it means that small, friendly reef fish are right at home here living and flitting around coral gardens that fringe the shallow water.
Beautiful Mooring
This part of Opal Reef is worth visiting because it is one of the most protected parts of the entire location. That means that much more fragile corals flourish, as they are protected from the powerful cross-currents of the Coral Sea. The relatively calm water means that small finned fish (the kind you saw in Finding Nemo) are right at home here and reward pa-tient divers with plenty of glimpses as they flit around their anemone homes.
